Singapore is well known for its continually changing landscape. Every time someone leaves for a month or two and returns, they’ll inevitably find that something has changed. Whether it’s demolition, widened roads, new shopping malls, it’s certain that I live in a fast-paced country where constant improvements are being made (although one can argue as to whether the changes are truly “improvements”).
As human beings, we pay attention to the betterment of our physical environment and our outward selves. Perhaps it is the Asian in us that says we need to maintain appearances at all costs.
But at what cost?
Have we lost focus on what is important – character and our inner well being – and instead pay more attention to the cosmetic?
I find myself thinking about this frequently of late. It is time to build relationships that last and invest in what counts for eternity.
