The quaint city of Coimbra.

Aug 16, 2016 | places + travel

I love exploring new places. This Monday, we crawled out of the house really early to catch the bus to Coimbra. We’d heard about the amazing Bibloteca Joanina (library) in the University of Coimbra and wanted to visit. It truly didn’t disappoint.

For €11, we took in 5 locations in the University and climbed the clock tower. I’d like to dwell on the amount of steep slopes and steps we had to climb. MY WORD. It was honestly tiring. I truly apprehended the meaning of cardiovascular exercise after I was done. My heart was pounding (not in a bad way) and I was quite out of breath. It was uphill to the university and then after that a climb up the tower through an extremely narrow staircase. If I recall correctly, it was 180+ steps to reach the top. Most people came up and panted for a bit before taking in the sights.

But it was worth it for the views.

A beautiful, beautiful city full of quaint European flair. I’ll be back.

How I like to travel.

Sintra.

Stepping into Sintra is like stepping into a magical wonderland where elves and leprechauns exist. At least, it feels like it anyway. It’s a quaint little town, approximately 30 minutes away from Lisbon by train. The trains come fairly often, so...
