Lunar New Year

It’s really early for the Lunar New Year, but frankly, it’s a very welcome break after 3 weeks of hectic school life. I had such fun with the family so far since sis is back for a short break before heading back to NZ.

A couple of snaps to show some productivity this week. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s date with Matt’s mum (!!) and Shimizu-san. Making some connections! God is good!

school life 2012 begins

And it’s Term 1 yet again. The cycle repeats itself like clockwork each year and this year is no different.

Except I’m with the 6-7 year olds again after a year.

Thankfully, they’re a good little lot, some a little chatty but nothing too extreme. God is good. It’s a welcome reprieve after last year’s grueling fiasco which was, according to certain folk, due to lack of firm discipline. I do wish to reiterate that it’s not due to the lack of trying!

What’s past is past and I’m nonetheless thankful for the experiences I had last year. I’m ready for new things, extraordinary things that God had in store for me!

Day 1 has been rather eventful I’d say. I didn’t realise how long I’d been on my feet until I sat down and got up again! Madness! Loving the little fellas.

Here they are in the hall, reading quietly.

knocking on doors

I can’t remember the last time I seriously went knocking on doors in order to share the Good News. It’s been ages since I last did handbill saturation, where I would slip flyers for church events under the doors of HDB homes… secretly. And run away. ^^;

(This reminds me of the Gintama episode, with the Rastafarian con-artist.)

It’s different from sharing with friends and people who I already know, which I do quite often.

So this time, after a whole lot of procrastinating, I finally headed out with Sis Ros and left my inhibitions at home. Truthfully, I was still rather nervous. What would I say, what can I say, how should I say it?

Putting my hand to the plough in this case, was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It will probably remain one of the hardest things I will do this season.

It really began with the right block. We managed to speak at length with three different households, two of which took up 30-45mins! I was surprised because I was expecting a lot of hostility and door-slamming.

We did meet someone who was rather upset and grouchy, who told us off from within the living room. However, apart from that everyone was generally quite polite. How lovely!

I secretly think it was God pampering me.

I also met one of my friends from the recent elections and she quite happily told me which floor she was on. That was such a miracle, to catch her while she was making her way home. Fantastic!

So three contacts. And definitely a Christmas party in the works!

a week in s.g. 1

I freely admit that I’m nicking this idea from good ol’ Danny of Culture Japan. He’s got some fabulous “A Week in Tokyo” posts with loads of photos as a log of what he’s been up to on a regular basis. Nice!

This weekend has been fairly exciting, I’d say. A busy week overall, with heaps to do. My planned agenda was:

  1. Friday: cell (8.00pm – 9.45pm) + overnight prayer (10.30pm – 3.00pm)
  2. Saturday: missions booth setup + hiphop @ Admiralty
  3. Sunday: morning + evening services (with marking in between)
  4. Monday: school’s National Day celebrations + Day of His Power @ Singapore Indoor Stadium (1.00pm – 10.00pm)
  5. Tuesday: Corporate Worship Day Camp (8.00am to 5.00pm)

Unfortunately, due to a throat infection, I stayed at home on Saturday. ^^; Otherwise, everything was as scheduled.

No photos of overnight prayer, obviously. Since I would have been slaughtered. Suffice to say that we had a wonderful time soaking in God’s presence and also praying for various needs. Love it when the Body comes together in unity to see a common goal fulfilled!

Had the chance to peek at the Japan missions booth in CCK. Just lovely. a week in s.g. - 001

spontaneity

Are you spontaneous?

The word probably wouldn’t be used to describe the average Singaporean. Mostly we’re quite a predictable bunch and tend to follow the rules. I suppose it’s built into our psyche quite naturally. If we consider the way we’ve all been educated, we’ll see the reason we’ve been stuck in a box very quickly.

I’m not as creative as I’d like to be. And not as spontaneous either. Random, maybe. But definitely not spontaneous.

I learnt a lot this weekend at the Spontaneous Worship session with Elvin and Jason during our Corporate Worship Meeting. I needed to learn more up in my mind since I play primarily by instinct.  I’m glad they shared what they did. It’s an excellent follow through from what I learnt from Dorothy during our time together at  Malacca Camp just this June about moving in the prophetic through singing and playing.

We need to keep using our minds effectively to worship the Lord instead of just relying on tongues to do the job. We need to fill our minds with His Word and His songs. From the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

It makes me wonder what I’ve been absorbing and hiding in my heart. ^^;

This evening, I’ve been dealt a whammy just by a few pieces of paper. I really need to step up and step out, be disciplined and get ready to move on to where God wants me to be!

something you want

At the meeting this evening, we were posed a question:

What would be one thing you’d want removed and what would you like added to you?

I’ve been thinking about it and am still mulling over it. There are lots of practical things I could think of, like less of a financial burden and more moolah, but that’s pretty superficial (although necessary). So I’ve come to the conclusion that I need frustration removed and passion to be added.

I’ve been quite frustrated lately, in particular with work because things don’t always go the way you want them to or hope they would. Every day at 1pm, I ask myself the same question: what on earth am I doing wrong?

Perhaps I just don’t have enough faith and trust that saying a prayer for them each day would make a difference. I need to see His power more in the workplace.

I’m thankful, however, that I don’t have the tendency to be depressed. Most of the time, I just do this:

And let it roll off my back. No sense in getting overly stressed about things. I just do what I can within the constraints that I have. I need to be more proactive (and passionate!) about things.

What’s one thing you’d like to see changed in your life?

a day of firsts! first #1

Here’s my first post of the day beginning with a first of my own: lunch at Freshness Burger, Causeway Point.

I’ve always wanted to try it but never had the chance to. I love Japanese fast food so it’s about time I gave it a whirl. It’s not too crowded on a Saturday afternoon.

See?

It has a fab sauce rack and huge dispensers of the usual condiments like chilli etc.

A nice clean counter with excellent staff.

And my order: cheeseburger, fried potatoes (Hokkaido style) and a macha latte.

The cheeseburger beef patty was juicy although quite frankly a little thin. The amount of fresh veggies stuffed in did make up for it – a must for the health conscious. Loads of crunchy lettuce, onions (both sautéed and raw) and pickles. As for condiments, I’d recommend mustard with it. Probably the best healthy fast food joint cheeseburger in Singapore today, I reckon. The fried potatoes were lightly fried wedges, crisp and hot. Liked the macha latte except that it might have been a little too much milk for me.

Overall, a wonderful experience. Highly recommend giving it a go.

新しい生活...GF2と!new life with the GF2!

Welcome to the new me.

Or rather, the old me with a spankin’ new camera, the Panasonic Lumix GF2. I’d do a review, but I’m just a common person and by no means a real photography geek. I just enjoy taking photographs and lately, recording videos.

Here’s a short clip I recorded just testing out the video capabilities of the GF2. Not too bad if I do say so myself! Quite fun to tinkle around with iMovie ’11 too.

Notice the Tokyo Tower? Heh. One of the things you’ll discover if you hang around here long enough is that I <3 Japan!

I’m in the midst of editing an awesome video and also the pictures that I took today of Games Day in school. Fabulous stuff coming up some time soon!
